Restaurant project designed in conjunction with a student of AAU’s architecture masters’ program for vacant lot in San Francisco’s Mission district. The premise was to create an architecture and a product designed to complement each other.
The idea behind ‘La Cocina’ is for guests to cook themselves on group cook-stations, using ingredients from the gardens situated in front of the restaurant. They can then enjoy the meals they prepared at reclaimed wood tables, which can be lined up together to created long banquet tables for larger parties.
The striped design of the table allows the use of small pieces of wood to be used for maximum up-cycling, and is reminiscent of traditional Mexican serape blankets, accentuating the latin inclination of the restaurant and the neighborhood it is situated in.
